"And of Zion, it shall be said, this and that man was born in her and the Highest Himself shall establish her." Psalm 87:6
Mr. Elijah Smith affectionately called "Jr." by his siblings, was born on September 12, 1954, in Columbus, MS to the Late Jacks and Emma Lou Smith. On early Sunday morning May 27, 2018, shortly after midnight, having journeyed as a pilgrim, he finished his work and answered the call to return to his eternal home. At an early age, his family moved to West Point, MS where Elijah grew up and graduated from West Point High School. In a newly integrated environment, he graduated with the highest honor in Math. Elijah went on to graduate from Mississippi State University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree, having majored in Math and minored in Computer Science. He attended Jackson State University with credits towards a Master of Science degree.
Elijah had a work ethic like non-other. In addition to working diligently at the church, he was employed fulltime at University Mississippi Medical Center in the Information Systems Department as a Business Systems-Application Coordinator/Analysts-Senior and nightly/part-time in the Information Systems Department with Methodist Rehabilitation Center for more than thirty (30) years.
Elijah united in marriage with Arethia Woodall, and from that union, one daughter, the apple of his eye, Angela Melissa was born. On April 11, 1987, he united in holy matrimony with Aurelia Jones, sharing life with her for thirty-one (31) wonderfully blessed years.
Elijah had a passion for Christ and a proclivity for golf. He played recreationally, even once achieving the elusive hole in one. But, second only to Christ he loved his family, his church, and his friends; therefore, his smile, his kind, and loving spirit will always be felt, but his presence will be terribly missed.
