Mr. Lawrence Hayes Anderson, Sr. was born in Jackson, Mississippi on February 20, 1932.  He was one of 10 sons and three daughters born to Victor Anderson and Lillie Bailey Anderson. Lawrence grew up in a large, loving family where he learned that there was always room for someone in need and offering a helping hand is a personal responsibility.

Lawrence Sr. was baptized and joined Cade Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at an early age.  He did not actively participate as a formal member of the church, but he never lost sight of the spirit of his parent’s teaching and the mission of the church.

Although he was a good academic student, he much working with his hands.  Lawrence graduated from Lanier High School in May of 1950.  After graduation, Lawrence became a full-time merchant and successfully ran the family business for many years.   Being a man with diverse entrepreneurial skills, he successfully owned and managed several different businesses.  Lawrence was a self-taught television repairman and owned a thriving daycare center.   As time passed and he began slowing down, Lawrence was not thinking about retirement.  He found the perfect job himself and worked in direct sales at Corr-Williams Tobacco for several years.

In November 1949, young Lawrence married his sweetheart, Desseree Anderson -Anderson and to this union, three girls and four boys were born. Although the marriage did not survive, Lawrence and Desseree remained amicable until her passing.

Eventually, Lawrence was touched by love again and he married Eva Gustavis-Anderson.  To this union was born two sons and one daughter. 

Lawrence remained in good health and was active and engaged in a variety of working activities until the last 6 months of his life. After a series of medical ailments, his health quickly declined.  He transitioned peacefully on May 20, 2019, with his family surrounding him.

Visitation hours will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019, from 2-5 p.m. at Peoples Funeral Home, located at 886 N. Farish Street - Jackson, Mississippi

Family hour will be Tuesday, May 28, 2019, from 10-11 a.m. at Peoples Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Peoples Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Autumn Woods Cemetery - Jackson, Mississippi.
