Mr. Odell Norwood, Jr.

Odell “Rusty” Norwood Jr.  was born in D’LO, Mississippi to the late Rosie Lee Drummond-Norwood and Odell Norwood, Sr. He departed this life on August 30, 2019 at University Medical Center.

Odell was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Cornelies Norwood; one son, Jerry Norwood, and one daughter, Delose Norwood; three brothers: Johnny Norwood, Curtis Lee Norwood, and Isaac (I.C.) Norwood; four sisters: Bertha May Snell, Brenda Faye Capels, Legither Norwood and Betty Lee Enoch.

At an early age Odell united with Shiloh M.B. Church in D’LO, Mississippi and attended Shiloh Church School during his elementary years.  “Rusty” as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, worked as a general laborer during his years of employment.

Odell leaves to mourn his passing, four sons; James Gildon, Henry Hester, and Bernard Norwood of Jackson, Mississippi, Bobby Hamilton of Magee, Mississippi (Louella) one daughter; Linda Rhodes of D’LO, Mississippi, one step daughter: Betty Thomas of Texas; one brother, Herman Norwood of St. Louis, Missouri; six sisters: Mattie Ward, Birdie May Nichols, Mary Joyce Hooks, Darlene Williams, Rosie Marie Magee, and Linda Norwood; two aunts; Bernice Norwood and Lucille Norwood; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.


Visitation hours will be Friday, September 6, 2019, 12-7 p.m. at Peoples Funeral Home, located at 886 N. Farish Street - Jackson, Mississippi 39202

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at Peoples Funeral Home Chapel, located at 886 N. Farish Street
