Mr. Willie James Carter was born April 24, 1940, in Clarke County "Shubuta" MS to the late Rev. John L. and Mary Ella Carter the youngest of twelve children. His earthly life ended on  July 7, 2018, in Jackson, MS.

His family moved to Jackson four years after the death of his father he was only twelve years old. He joined Cade Chapel Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. J.D. Hayden. James attended CM&I College and completed his High School education. There he took up a trade in upholstery and became a professional in that trade until he retired.

While in High School he met and fell in Love with his schoolmate, Elma Sheriff. Shortly afterward they were married and became proud parents of two children, Cheryl Lynn and Michael. Years later he joined Greater Mt. Bethel Church so they could worship together.

James loved to fish and hunt. Many years he would go to the reservoir and return with enough fish for his family and give some away. Then he would go to Clarke County and hunt. None of that hindered him from taking his family on vacations.
