Mrs. Dorothy Huell Foster was born May 17, 1948, to the late Rev. Louis and Alma Coleman. She was joined in marriage to Charles Anthony Huell of Vicksburg, MS in 1976, She was baptized at Liberty Trinty Baptist Church in Jackson, MS and united with Pleasent Gift M.B. Church in 2013.

Dorothy graduated from Lanier High School, class of 1965. In 1969, she furthered her education attending Jackson State University in Jackson, MS and completed with a B.A. in English, Minoring in Spanish. In 1969, her infinite love of teaching began as a Language Arts and Spanish teacher at Mendenhall High School in Mendenhall, MS. From 1986-1998, she joined the Blackburn Middle School family in Jackson, MS teaching Language Arts and serving as a mentor for Gifted Students. While teaching at Blackburn Middle School, she also obtained her M.A. Degree in English from Jackson State University in 1987. In 1998, she began teaching Language Arts at Hardy Middle School in Jackson, MS until 2002. In 2003, she taught Language Arts as an Accredited International Baccalaureate Instructor.

In 2004, her calling and purpose transitioned as she became a part of the Jackson Public School's Office of Curriculum and Instruction as a Literacy Specialist. With over 40 years of wholehearted dedication to teaching, mentoring, and touching the lives of others, she happily retired in 2011.

On Sunday, September 4, 2018, Dorothy transitioned from her earthly journey peacefully with her loving family near her side. 


Visitation hours will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018, between the hours of 12-7 p.m. at Peoples Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Peoples Funeral Home Chapel, Interment will follow at Garden Memorial Cemetery, Jackson, MS.
