Mrs. Gladys Lee-Oliver Kelly was born in Scooba, Mississippi, on March 1. 1922, to the late Mr.Levi Birch and the late Mrs. Viola Kimbrough Birch. she was the second of two children. She received her early education from Kemper County, Mississippi Public Schools. She graduated from Harris High School, Merdian, Mississippi, in 1943.
Gladys and her family moved to Jackson, MS in 1946. She was joint owner and self-employed for 23 years at Oliver & Sons Grocery Stores (Four) in Jackson, MS. later she worked as a saleswoman at Gafers Department Store and at Smitty Food Mart in Tougaloo, MS. After retirement, she was selected by the City of Jackson to serve as an activity coordinator for L T Love and Golden Key Seniors Citizens Centers. She taught clothing design and sewing. Gladys joined Farish Street Baptist Church in the late 1940's, and she remained a member until her death.
Gladys was a king, loving and caring person who never met a stranger. She loved riding horses (Stu Ball and Kelly), sewing and fishing. Most of all she loved the Lord!
On April 19, 2019, Gladys transitioned unto the Lord for her eternal rest. Memorial arrangements are listed below
A memorial service will be held in Mrs. Kelly honor on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at 12:00 p.m. at Farish Street Baptist Church located at 619 N. Farish Street - Jackson, Mississippi 39202
